The best I've ever owned:
I reluctantly bought this when my 2-year-old Canon Powershot S80 froze and would have cost $150 to repair. I liked the S80, but I'm thrilled with the SX100 IS, which cost only about 1/3 as much. What I love: easy auto mode, good manual controls, decent (low-resolution) videos. 8.0 MP resolution, good image stabilization. After the 3x zoom of the S80, 10x zoom is a delight; I get many pix I couldn't have gotten with the S80. Minor quibbles: the function wheel on the top of the camera is frequently rotated by taking the camera out of the case. So I have to check each time that I'm in the same mode I left it in; I have ended up with bad photos when I thought I was in Auto mode and turned out not to be. The batteries can fall out when you open the battery door to change the sd card. But this doesn't bother me; it's intuitive to hold the camera upside down when opening the door on the bottom. In that position, the batteries stay put as they should. Altogether, I find this camera a delight. Every time I use it I'm reminded how much I like it. When the time comes for a new camera, I will certainly buy one of the successor models (the very similar Canon Powershot SX110IS 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) or the 20x Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP Digital Camera with 20x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. I've owned many cameras in my life. For my current needs of quick, good snapshots and occassional professional portraits and action shots, this camera is the best I've ever owned.

Perfect do-all travel camera:
I've traveled with a lot of different cameras, the SX100IS is far closer to 'perfect' than any I've owned. It's compact, light weight, and has most of the important functions on a much larger camera. I see some of you have issues with the flash--I rarely need the flash because shots sans flash sometimes show more accurate colours anyway. For the camera to have a faster flash recycle time it would need a far larger battery pack. I've never had an issue with the recovery time. Nor has mine ever turned off with the lens partially retracted. All in all it's just a great little camera for travel and shooting almost anything outside the 'professional' realm.

Just what Santa ordered!:
I bought this for my best friend for Christmas and he loves it! He picked it out and it was exactly what he wanted in a camera. He's an amateur photographer and was looking for a camera to replace his old one. This one was perfect!

Great Compact Ultra Zoom!:
I wanted a compact ultra zoom camera to take with me to Baseball games, travelling, etc, when I would be unlikely to carry around my full DSLR with me. This camera is perfect, and the Image stabilization is a must have for a zoom of this range in such a small package (since your hands shake a bit easily, holding the camera in front of you). AA Batteries which are a pro or con depending on what you feel about them. For me, being able to go to any drug store and buy batteries is a big + to me even if they end up making the camera a tiny bit heavier. Image quality is good, flash is slow to recharge, zoom is amazing for this size camera.
