Great Resource: This book has been around my home and to my work for the past few months. I really love both the way it is organized (in short single sitting chapters) and the range of material it covers. It is definitely not an in depth study of every lore and legend out there by any means. But it does not try to sell itself as such - it does offers a great sampling of many upon many stories out there, from well know to down right bizarre, which can then be further researched elsewhere to the readers desire. I throughly enjoyed "Seafaring Lore and Legend" and recommend it to any one with even an inkling of love for the sea.
fascinating cornucopia: This book is absolutely fascinating if you're at all interested in - well, in seafaring lore & legend. I found the writing style not dry at all, but very warm and affable. It's in some ways 'academic' - that is, written intelligently and carefully, not sloppily - but there was also definite personality in it. I would love to have a drink with this guy - he'd be funny and incredibly interesting. Importantly, the writer has a clear love and passion for what he's writing about, and that gets you into it. The layout was also very clear and practical - easy to find the information you're looking for. This would be a great factual resource for writers, especially historical or fantasy writers.
A lot of lore: This has a lot of interesting stories and lore but is somewhat dry to read
