do not buy this washer -or anything from whirlpool: I have been dealing w/whirlpool since 4/23 over trying to repair this washer. Now 2 months later, after 4 service visits and 5 wrong parts ordered, it still isnt fixed. Whirlpool recommended A & E factory service for the repair ( I am out of warranty). All I need replaced is the front control panel ( the plastic top piece that holds the soap dispenser and has the load titles printed on it). Trouble is, they keep sending the wrong part. It has been sent 5 different times, all wrong. A & E cant seem to explain why, they say its whirlpools problem because the parts box is being labeled wrong from whirlpool. Whirlpool has been no help. I am caught in a vicious circle. A & E would never respond to my complaints, only that they could leave a message for Cust. Relations dept. I finally contacted BBB to file complaint. A & E finally responded to my complaint and will refund all the $ paid for parts and labor. I have to wait for 7-10 days for check to arrive. Then I have to start all over trying to contact another company to try to fix - and I'm screwed if they cant get right parts from whirlpool either. Also, we furnished our brand new home 5 years ago with ALL whirlpool appliances and have had problems with everyone. Dishwasher didnt work out of the box - the heater element was gone (fixed under warranty). It broke again 2 more times in the next 2 years. Then our very expensive stainless side by side frig broke after 4 years - needed new fan - lost all food in fridge and freezer. Then duet dryer has never worked effeciently. The dampness sensor is never accurate. It shuts off after 15 minutes of a 40 min cycle and the load is still very damp. Washer also didnt wok out of the box, some belt was broke or defective. The only things that havent broke are the cooktop and the combo oven/microwave. NEVER buy whirlpool.
Whirlpool Duet is a lemon: I bought one from a local store on July 4th, 2007. 8 months later it quit mid-load and said error code #70. Whirlpool sent a guy out in 4 days, so my clothes were good and soured by then (because frontloading machines lock the door shut during the cycle). 4 months later it still has not been reapired and Whirlpool is giving me the run-around everytime I call. They have ordered central processing units, user control and interface switchboards and computer motherboards, a wiring harness, and a door latch that the reapir man broke forcing it open, and parts were backordered for over a month at a time. Whirlpool has claimed that they lost my records, that they filed it under a different phone number, they tried to claim that I had already returned a washing machine nearly 6 months before mine even broke, they claimed that the repair man never called their tech support line even though I watched him call them 3 different times, etc. It is extremely unfortunate that I also bought a Whirlpool refrigerator the same day I bought the washer, because otherwise I would NEVER NEVER NEVER buy another Whirlpool. I doubt other brands are made any "better" but my mom got great customer service from Sears/Kenmore. Customer service is where you make it or break it, and Whirlpool doesn't have any. The only good thing I can say about the Whirlpool Duet? It's saving me a LOT of water and electricity by sitting there out of service for months on end.
Stay away: It vibrates very badly even after professional installation. Collects water and grows mold. See my image under product pictures. Whirlpool calls it cosmetic and wont replace it under warranty. :(
SD Green Guy: I really like the Whirlpool Duet that I have. I believe the pictures shown by another customer are the consequence of not reading the owners manual. The manual tells you that you have to periodically run the cleaning/bleach cycle to keep the machine from having mold issues. We do it monthly and have had no problems.
LEMON, LEMON, LEMON AFTER 2 YEARS: We bought a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer and stacked them in a laundry closet and thought they were the best thing in the world for two years. Then.... The F11 kiss of death code. No repairman really seems to know how to fix it, but thanks to someone else on the internet, I figured out where to PUNCH (I am not kidding, I have to punch it every couple of months) the machine to get it to start working again. This was after days of frustration. In case you have the same problem - you need to punch the machine in the upper back right hand corner and for some reason, it seems to start working again - you may need to unplug it a couple of times, but beats paying a repair man. This trick has worked for the last 6 months so far. If that wasn't bad enough - the dryer door won't close and pops open after one minute of working. Haven't figured out a creative way around this one yet, but I am going to keep trying. This combo seems great, but will crap out on you fairly quickly. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!! IT WILL HAPPEN ON YOUR DIME AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES!!!!
