Finally the best: I had two false starts: A T-Fal delux had slots too short for my favorite bakery bread, a Haier did a very disappointing job on English muffins (using the bagel setting) and did not toast both sides of bread the same. The price of this Breville is a bit hard to take, however it performs beautifully and is built like the sturdy toasters I remember as a kid while having very modern features. It has a "frozen" choice that actually compensates for your bread if it is frozen, as well as a 2 other features that make this a really good choice - the "just a bit more" button drops the toast for just what it says and works quite well, second, the "lift and look" button pauses your cycle while it raises your bread/bagel to check it. Handy if you are working with a brand/density of bread that's new to you. But the real selling point is that it actually toast both sides evenly - the outsides of the bread are nicely golden while the inside is still tender. That seems such a simple thing, but it's amazing how difficult that is to find.
Shipping Costs: The toaster is super, however, if I had purchased it directly from Breville, I would have had no S & H costs - $12.50. Jack
Great Design!: I'm pleased with my purchase! Yes it's an expensive toaster for toasting slices of bread but since I want it a SS toaster this was a good bargain versus KitchenAid brand i.e. I like the function of little bit more toast, Perfect! If you need a toaster go buy the cheapest one but if you like stainless steel this item should be on your list!
Best toaster ever!!: I've had this toaster six months and use it at least 2-3 times a week. I get perfect toast, golden brown from top to bottom, side to side, on both sides. It's pricey, but I think it will last a long time. I like the safety of the grounded plug and it has nice extras, like the 'bagel' setting, which only toasts one side. The automatic up/down function is neat, as well as the LED lights showing how far along the toasting cycle is. I'm very glad I bought this one, it was worth the cost.
A Versitile Toaster from Down Under: We've had this toaster for about two months now and are very happy with it. It's sturdy construction and good looks are a plus, aside from the fact that it makes great toast. The bagel and defrost features work well and our guests get a kick out of the "a bit more" button, which comes in handy at times. The plug is a unique design as well, makes it easy to plug and unplug when necessary. After seeing this toaster in action, we haven't thought twice about the price.
