Superior treatmtent for fuel system water contamination:
I researched fuel water management additives a lot before deciding to purchase this one. I poured an ounce into the 15 gallon fuel tank of my old tractor (which, being gravity fed, tends to accumulate water in the low points of the fuel system). The engine smoothed out after idling for a few minutes (not a great deal, but, noticibly) and it didn't have any apparent adverse effects. There are at least three reasons I believe this is a superior "water remover" for fuel systems. First, it is more economical. A 12 ounce bottle of this stuff will treat about a dozen tanks of fuel. Compare that with a bottle of "Heet" Iso-HEET Premium Fuel System Dryer and Antifreeze /12 fl. oz. or "STP" STP Water Remover (12 oz.) at almost $3.00 per bottle (and you must use the entire bottle on a single tank of gas). Second, the method of managing water in a fuel system, with this product, is IMHO far superior. The STP and Heet types of "water removers" use ether or alchohol to bond to the water. Theoretically, the alcohol and ether ignite in the combustion chamber and the bonded water is then harmlessly expelled. This method works, but, there are two problems with it. First, it doesn't do anything about the water that accumulates in the bottom of your fuel tank (water is heavier than fuel), or the bottm of your carburetor, or the bottom of you fuel lines, or the low points of your fuel filter (or the water sediment in the bottom of your fuel transfer tank (a 55 gal. oil drum for me). This Redline product uses a different method. It is an oil or "lipoid." It coats the water molecules, and they disperse evenly throughout the fuel so that the water does not collect in specific parts of the fuel system. (I believe the chemistry term is "colloid dispersion.") When the water molecules are coated with the lipoids, the resulting bonded water/oil molecules have the same weight as the fuel, and, they pass harmlessly through the combustion cycle without accumulating. This has the added side-effect of providing some additional lubrication in the fuel and combustion system without fouling. I've use "Sta-bil" Gold Eagle 22214 STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer. 32 oz. in my fuel transfer and storage containers for years (55 gal. oil drums), and it does an adequate job of stabilizing the octane, and, managing the water. However, recently, after some -20 below temperatures (which caused my fuel to freeze in the pump) I decided to try this alternative. I think this works better. I think it is superior to the others.
