Wireless LED Motion sensing Security Light: This a great product because you can mount it anywhere! Easy to use ....yes it takes batteries so you might think its not reliable but if you use Eneloop rechargeable batteries it makes it more sustainable! I put mine in a couple of closets plus the kid's bathroom since they're always leaving the light on and wasting electricity! I like it because I'm not very techincal minded so its a no brainer to mount and use!! Anyone can use it!
Great security light: These are the best LED motion sensor lights that I've purchased after installing eight of these lights in my house. I have tried numerous LED night lights and security lights and these are the best so far. The three LED's provide plenty of light, better than a single LED night light, yet not so blinding as the six LED lights that I've tried in the past. The light head rotates about forty-five degrees for aiming the light, but it does light up a large area without aiming. It uses three AAA batteries that are stored in the main unit behind the LED's. The battery door even has a rubber or silicone seal. I haven't tried rechargeable batteries...yet, but plan on using some Eneloope's after the batteries wear out in one of the units. The photo sensor is a main feature for me, it saves on the batteries keeping the light off when it's not dark. The motion sensor is good for about ten to fifteen feet maximum when horizontal. The light stays on for ten to twelve seconds, then goes out automatically if there is no motion within range of the sensor. The mount has three different options: magnetic, screw, or adhesive. I've used all three in different places. This really provides some flexibility for mounting the light in a variety of places. The mount itself can be detached from the light, allowing you to replace the batteries and leave the mount in place. I have one on a steel door, a couple on the wall in the corners to illuminate hallways, and one mounted outside my main entry door, screwed to the frame aiming down. That light illuminates my entire door entryway when motion is detected about six feet out from the door. The light works great outside in the cold. It's been below zero (F) several nights and the light works without any problem. I will offer an improvement, but this isn't a show stopper. Provide multiple light delays, twelve seconds is fast. The advantage to a quick light delay is that the batteries will last longer. The light does stay on if there is movement within range of the motion sensor. I have one in a bathroom, magnetically attached to a vent aiming down, it lights up the entire bathroom, but will go out if I'm standing still while taking a leak. As far as previous comments about the batteries coming loose? Well, if the light is mounted on a wall or door, then how would they come loose? I purchased mine at a big warehouse store where they sold a two-pack for $17.99. This light would make a great travel light for security and safety. It can be used as a flashlight because the three position switch has an always-on position. Like I said earlier, I have eight of these lights in key locations around my house and don't use my LED night lights anymore. A great little product. Time will tell how reliable they are over the year.
Great for spaces where you need occasional extra lighting: I just installed a pair of the Sylvania LED lights in my hallway. I'd seen a lot of LED lights before though none of them had offered the motion sensor and light sensor that I wanted. These portable lights are a snap to install and what's most impressive is they detect motion at a decent distance so you don't have to be standing, sitting, walking right near them in order to trigger the light. When there is enough natural light, the Sylvania senses that and will not turn on - thereby saving power. The battery compartment is a bit odd as it seems to have a lot of extra space and I wonder if any of the batteries might work loose over time. These are exactly what I've been looking for as a light to provide some occasional extra lighting in my hallway.
Good value for the price: I just unpacked these and they work as described. Adequate to light a small closet or shelf to look for things, or a 10 foot section of hallway if all you need to do is see obstacles. Brighter than you would want for a night-light near the bed, perfect for trips to the can as long as you don't aim it at your own eyes. Mounting: a foam adhesive square is included with each unit. There are two small holes on plastic wings (you can see one in the pics) a little over 1.5 inches apart. Directly between them is a holding magnet sufficient to support the weight of the unit with batteries installed even hanging from a horizontal steel plate, assuming you are not on a boat with things jostling around. The motion sensor covers a quarter-sphere to the front of the unit and below it, as pictured. At a height of 6 feet facing down cats will trip the sensor directly underneath, but reorientation and/or a bit of properly placed tinfoil will likely fix that. The light stays on solid until several seconds after motion stops or it sees another light. Cons: Could easily have used AA cells instead providing for a longer time between changes. Ambient light level adjust and interval adjust would be a plus, but unless used in a heavily trafficked daytime area it is not a concern for battery life. Battery fit feels a bit flimsy but isn't awful. Batteries seem to be in series so it's 4.5V (as one would expect.) Designed for alkalines so no bets on whether it will drain NiMH cells past the damage point if they are not changed frequently enough... will not know that for several months yet. (As above comment said, use an LSD NIMH a.k.a. "precharged" or "hybrid" NiMH in these like eneloop, hybrio, etc. as with any low drain device that will be serviced only occasionally.)
